Home Holistic Training

Since most of the students are from rural areas, the institution takes appropriate steps to improve their oral communication and proficiency in English. Each student undergoes training in three phases starting from their first year to third year that enriches their communication skills. The training programs are as follows:

  1. 1. Technical English Communication (TEC)
  2. 2. English proficiency and Communication skills (EPCS)
  3. 3. Business English Certification (BEC)

TECHNICAL ENGLISH COMMUNICATION (TEC)

This program focuses majorly on improving the basic vocabulary that is required for a student to participate actively in the classroom discussions. It helps to:

  • Strengthen the reading and listening comprehension skills of student to follow the academic discourse in the engineering classroom.
  • Have a command of basic vocabulary related to different subject matters.
  • Have a grasp on the mechanics of writing and expressing the ideas through construction of simple texts.

  • ENGLISH PROFICIENCY & COMMUNICATION SKILLS (EPCS)

    The objective of this program is to introduce the specific uses of English to students and to improve the language proficiency of student's in communicating the meaning verbally,as well as writing. In this programme, all applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have the English proficiency required for their individual program.

    Students are provided with a platform to enhance their Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking skills. These are measured by standardized and internationally recognized tests, such as Cambridge English Language Assessment which are usually marked on a band score. Preliminary English Test (PET)is one of such Cambridge English Qualifications for which students are provided with an opportunity to attend through this program. It is the English language exam that shows you have mastered the basics.

    English level B1 is the third level of English in the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), a definition of different language levels written by the Council of Europe. In everyday speech, this level would be called "intermediate", and indeed, that is the official level descriptor in the CEFR.

    OUTCOMES OF TEC AND EPCS TRAINING:
    The student will be able to:
    Reading and Writing Listening and Speaking

    CAN understand the general meaning of non-routine letters within own work area.

    CAN follow a simple presentation/demonstration.

    CAN understand most short reports of a predictable nature.

    CAN deal with predictable requests from a visitor.

    CAN make notes on routine matters, such as taking/placing orders.

    CAN offer advice to clients within own job area on simple matters.

    CAN write straightforward, routine letters of a factual nature.              

    CAN state routine requirements (e.g. asking for typing to be done).


    SALIENT FEATURES OF THE TRAINING
  • Enhances four language skills of the student such as Reading comprehension skills, written communication through mails, short messages, writing memo, note etc. Oral communication through short presentations, discussions etc. Listening skills by exposing them to native speakers' presentations etc.
  • The training ensures all students will undergo minimum 30 hours to maximum 60 hours of training before the examination.
  • The students learn work specific vocabulary and basic grammar for communication purpose.
  • Creating work related ambience through conducting mock speaking tests for more realistic experience.
  • Training boosts employability opportunities
  • Excellence in business related communication

  • TRAINING METHODOLOGY
  • Practice work sheets to deal with the written part of examination.
  • Practice work sheets to develop reading comprehensibility of the students.
  • Exposure to audio and video clips of native speakers to develop their listening ability.
  • Interactive sessions along with the presentations to develop students' speaking examinations skills.
  • Mock question papers to familiarize and to deal with pet examination.

  • TRAINERS

    The Division of English has well equipped in-house training faculty to train the students. The mock speaking practice will be provided by qualified speaking examiners under VFSTR. Additionally, the students also get interaction with the external resource persons.

    BUSINESS ENGLISH CERTIFICATION (BEC) Training:

    To hone students' communicative abilities in English and to improve their proficiency beyond the basics, Business English Certification (BEC) Training is offered for II and III year students.

    ABOUT BEC TRAINING

    BEC training aims to improve professional communication skills require at work place and to help students to get certified in BEC examination conducted by Cambridge English Language Assessment.

    SALIENT FEATURES OF THE TRAINING
  • Enhances four language skills of the student such as Reading comprehension skills, Business Writing Skills through mails, short report writing, preparing business proposals, memo, note etc.
  • Creating work related ambience by conducting mock speaking tests for more realistic experience and to improve oral communication.
  • Listening skills by exposing to native speakers' presentations in Business context etc.
  • The training ensures all eligible students will undergo minimum 20 hours to maximum 50 hours of training before the BEC examination.
  • Students learn work specific vocabulary and basic grammar for communication purpose
  • Training boosts employability opportunities of the students
  • Excellence in business related communication

  • BENEFITS FOR STUDENTS
  • Students who pass in the examination will get globally recognized certificate from Cambridge University.
  • BEC certificate is accepted by multinational national companies like HSBS, Bank of America, and Cognizant, ZTE Corporation etc.
  • Admission in to Master's program at various universities abroad, as the band score of BEC is considered equivalent to IELTS.
  • The certificate is accepted for categories of UK visa application, including Tier 2 and Tier 4 covering work and study.
  • BEC examination follows International CEFR International assessment
  • Training boosts students' confidence and presence of mind under stressed conditions

  • RESOURCE PERSONS

    Both in-house training faculty and qualified examiners train eligible students. The mock speaking practice will be provided by qualified speaking examiners who registered under the University's PET & BEC examinations Centre Number IN269.
