What are Goals?

Goals are the choices and the sacrifices we make in order to accomplish our objectives, break poor habits, embrace good habits, or achieve greater success in various aspects of life. It is a vision of the future or an ideal outcome that someone envisions, plans, and commits to achieve.

Goals help us concentrate on life by assisting us in determining what we desire. Without them, we would simply be clueless. We look forward to accomplishments that will support and validate our lives, whether we are students, professionals, homemakers, or retirees. Once we've set down a strategy for achieving our objectives, it becomes a goal.

This is especially necessary for Engineering students. During the four years of a B.Techprogramme, a student is introduced to a wide range of diversions and obstacles. During this time, it is critical to stay focused and cruise along with a planned schedule. A single misstep could threaten the whole career path. A long-term vision to accomplish our aspirations must always be in the back of our minds when selecting the best Engineering College in Guntur that will meet our ambitions and also while studying in that university to achieve the grades, the degree, and the job.

SMART Goals

SMART is an acronym for a devised strategy that helps in establishing goals. It is a tried and tested method of goal setting that has helped millions around the world. The expression represents the words Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely. A SMART goal takes into account all of these factors that help you direct your efforts and maximize your odds of success.

Specific

Specific goals have a much better chance of being achieved. The five "W’s" must be weighed when making a target-specific:

Who: Who is a part of this goal?

What: What am I hoping to achieve?

Where: Where will this goal be accomplished?

When: When do I want to accomplish this goal?

Why: Why am I motivated to accomplish this goal?

Measurable

A SMART goal must-have metrics for tracking success. You won't be able to chart your success or decide whether you're on track to meet your target if there are no requirements. To make an objective measurable, consider the following questions:

1. How many/much do you have?

2. How can I know when I've accomplished my goal?

3. What is my metric for success?

Achievable

A SMART goal ought to be achievable and feasible. This will assist you in determining how to achieve and progress toward that goal. The goal's achievability should be extended out to make you feel challenged yet established enough that you can really accomplish it. Consider the following questions:

1. Do I have the necessary resources and abilities to complete the task? What am I lacking if not?

2. Is it something that people have achieved effectively before?

Realistic

A SMART goal should be realistic because it can be accomplished with the resources and time available. If you think you can achieve a SMART goal, it is most definitely realistic. Consider the following questions:

1. Is the goal attainable and realistic?

2. Is the goal realistic in terms of time and resources?

3. Are you willing to dedicate yourself to reaching the goal?

Timely

A SMART goal must be time-bound, with a beginning and ending date. As a result, there would be no sense of urgency and, as a result, less desire to accomplish the target if it is not time-bound. Consider the following questions:

1. Is there a time limit on my goal?

2. When do you intend to reach your objective?

A potential student seeking admission to one of the best universities in Andhra Pradesh could set the following SMART goal:

In the coming session, I will enrol in the Department of Information Technology at Vignan's Foundation for Science, Technology & Research in Guntur to graduate with a minimum of 80% in four years with no backlogs and land a job in any of the top ten IT firms.

Such a target will serve as a real motivator, and all of the student's efforts from now on will be analyzed to see how they help him, or her achieve the goal. Such a target is both realistic and achievable. The strength of SMART Goals is undeniable.
