 ADMISSION INTO M.A English
Programme Objectives
  • The goal and mission of the MA English programme is to prepare students for a host of career avenues, among them teaching, publishing and editing, and virtually any career that asks for clarity of thinking and expression.
  • Through the core English curriculum, students will gain a solid foundation in writing and presentation skills, literary traditions and pedagogical practices for teaching English in the Indian ESOL context.
  • In fulfilling the requirement for their degree, students will explore a host of writing techniques and theories of journalistic and business reporting through study of literary texts, media documents facilitated through short assignments.
  • While pursuing their final semester projects, students will learn how to do a referencing/bibliographic study to explore existing scholarship for writing well argued papers/dissertation, which will enable them to integrate their own reading of literary and general text(s) with those already published.
    • Unique Course Structure

    The MA English course structure is unique catering to the diverse needs of industry, academia, media and journalism. Students will undergo a combination of intensive skill based courses with hands-on approach on:

  • Writing
  • Teaching
  • Translation
  • Curriculum & Material Development
  • Language Assessment
    • Programme Outcomes:

    After completing the course, students will

  • have an ability to write within the context of different genres
  • have acquired pedagogical skills required for teaching English in India in the ESOL context
  • write a near-professional, original work of literary research and scholarship
  • have an understanding of a variety of media and literary genres
  • be able to apply critical theories in the interpretation of socio-cultural and literary texts
  • Admission into M.A. English - 60% (above 6.5 CGPA) aggregate marks in any Bachelor's Degree and 60% in the subject English and qualified in written test and interview conducted by the University .

  • The merit position of the candidate for admission will be based on written test(MCQ) followed by overall interview conducted by VFSTRU, provided if he/she gets the required minimum marks in the qualifying examination as per the eligibility criteria. Admissions will be purely on merit and by following the reservation policy applicable to Vignan's Foundation for Science, Technology & Research (Deemed to be University).
  • A common merit list will be prepared based on the performance in written test(MCQ) followed by overall interview conducted by VFSTRU and eligible candidates will be called for the counseling to be held at the Vignan's Foundation for Science, Technology & Research (Deemed to be University) premises at Vadlamudi, Guntur District, A.P.
  • It is the responsibility of the candidates to ascertain whether they possess the requisite qualification for admission. Having been called for the written test/counseling does not necessarily mean acceptance of the eligibility/admission.
  • The admission offered to a candidate who has been provisionally admitted to the programme will stand cancelled if he/she does not submit the relevant documents in original pertaining to admission(such as Marks Statements, Transfer Certificate, Conduct Certificate Caste Certificate (if any) etc.) to the Dean-Admissions before the date stipulated in the admission offer.
  • Admissions to the programme will, however, be subject to verification of facts from the original certificates/documents of the candidates. In case any discrepancy is noticed even at a later point of time after admission, the management reserves the right to cancel the admission and such a decision shall be final and binding on the candidate.

    • Download M.A. ENGLISH application form. The filled application along with the DD for Rs. 200/- drawn in favour of VFSTR Application Account, payable at Guntur should be sent to the following address so as to reach before the last date specified. Candidates should write their name and address on the reverse of DD.
